Hi,

My battery doesn't charge past 24% for some reason, though it stays there when plugged in!

It seems to hold a charge and has passed the HP hardware diagnostic scan and the plug seems to work. I've tried replacing the driver (Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery) and restarting.

The battery I have is an HP battery, the second for this laptop. It initially worked well.

Any suggestions welcome. Thank you very much.

Guy

Try these steps:

Since you mentioned that the battery has passed the HP hardware diagnostic scan and the plug seems to work, we'll start with some further troubleshooting steps:

Check Battery Health and Calibrate If Necessary

Run Battery Health Check and Calibration:

  • Turn off the computer and disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press esc repeatedly, about once every second.
  • When the startup menu appears, press f2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.
  • Select Component Tests and then Battery Test.
  • Review the test results. If needed, calibrate the battery by following the on-screen instructions or manually discharging and recharging the battery as described in the calibration instructions.

Power Management Settings

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand the Human Interface Devices list.
  • Right-click the HID-compliant touch screen device and select Properties.
  • On the Power Management tab, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box.

BIOS Configuration

  • Ensure your BIOS is updated to the latest version. You can find the BIOS update instructions and files here.
  • Check the HP Battery Health Manager settings in BIOS and set it to Let HP manage my battery charging. This setting helps in balancing battery life and battery health.

Manual Calibration

Discharge the battery completely:

  • Turn off the computer and disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Turn on the computer and repeatedly press esc to enter the startup menu, then f2 to enter diagnostics.
  • Select Component Tests, then Battery Test, and click Run Once.

Reconnect the AC adapter and charge the battery fully (100%).

I hope this helps.
