Hi:

I'm having a problem with battery charging that someone may be able to help with.

I've had the notebook a number of years and the life of the original battery was exceeded. I had it changed (non-HP battery) and it was working fine for a couple of months. But eventually, if I let the charge fall below about 20%, I couldn't recharge the battery. I could plug the PC in and use it, but the battery wouldn't charge. I tried various typical things advised on forums (like checking the drivers and BIOS etc) but it didn't help. If I made a few attempts to let the battery discharge totally, eventually I could recharge it. Again, it would work fine until I let the battery charge get too low (e.g. it would get stuck at 7% or 18%).

So, I had the battery changed again (under warranty) and exactly the same thing happened. The battery worked fine unless it got below a certain threshold. To rule out other causes, I got a new power cable; but it made not difference. The guys at the battery replacement shop can't find any problems.

Googling, I've notice a number of people with HP notebooks have had what looks like exactly the same problem: i.e. battery that works fine until it gets below a threshold and then refuses to charge. And, I've seen there are a number of possible generic fixes: I've tried them but none have helped.

Given this has happened to other people, it seems there may be something particular causing my problem.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what it is. Does anyone know what the problem is or how I might be able to fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
