HP 15 laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In just the past two weeks, every time I use my laptop on battery power, and plug it back in, it will not charge.

I have followed the instructions to uninstall the battery drivers, remove the battery, and this helps for one time.

The next time I have to do it again.

I have a linux distro installed in dual boot on this machine (Xubuntu) and if I reboot to linux, it charges fine.

When I go back to windows, it wont'.

I understand your concerns.

HP will not support the dual operating system.

However, please update the BIOS and check.

If the issue still persists, please perform the battery test and check.

1. Power off the PC and make sure that it is completely powered off.

2. Press the power button and the moment you press the power button immediately start tapping F2 key, you should see the system diagnostics screen.

3. Look for the component test, under that all the hardware will be listed, please choose Battery and initiate the quick test.

Note: If it fails it will generate a 24 digits alphanumeric failure id, please capture that.

Have a nice day!!

@CharlieB1414 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are unable to charge the battery.

HP will not recommend for dual boot.

Please perform the below steps and check for the issue,.

Steps to uninstall the ACPI drivers

Right-Click on start button> click device manager> Batteries>then select the s drivers and right-click on it and uninstall all battery drivers.

Then restart the computer and check again.

I have tried everything on this except the BIOS.  I question whether that is the issue; as I said, my Linux boot does not have any issues, so I doubt this is hardware or BIOS related.

BTW - I do not know what you are trying to say by "HP will not recommend for dual boot."

Regardless, I do use both Windows and Linux on this machine.

OK, so, BIOS is up to date, and battery test came back "passed" - no errors

Still same results

So, it seems there was an optional BIOS update.  It did not show up in the desktop HP Support Assistant, but did show up on the online.  I applied the update, and it seems to be working again.  I unplugged it for a time, and plugged it back in, and it is charging once again.

Thank you all!
