Hi

I purchased HP ENVY 13.3" Laptop - Intel Core i5, 512 GB SSD, in December 2021, I have switched it on for the first time (charged for 24hrs - first charge) however the laptop doesn't charge.  The laptop recognises the charger is plugged in but remains at 0%.  Is it because it's been left unused for so long?

Please help

Hi @Shauni28,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's unlikely that the issue with your laptop not charging is directly related to it being unused for a few months since purchase. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check the Power Adapter and Cable: Ensure that the power adapter is securely plugged into both the laptop and the power outlet. Sometimes, the connection can be loose, which prevents charging. Also, inspect the power cable for any signs of damage.
  • Inspect the Charging Port: Look into the charging port of your laptop to see if there is any dust, lint, or debris that might be obstructing the connection. Use compressed air to clean it out gently if necessary.
  • Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor software glitches that might be causing the charging issue.
  • Update Drivers and BIOS: Check if there are any pending updates for your laptop's drivers and BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). Sometimes, outdated drivers or BIOS can cause hardware issues.
  • Perform a Power Reset: Shut down your laptop, disconnect the power adapter, and remove the battery (if it's removable, though many modern laptops like yours might not have removable batteries). Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds to drain any residual power. Then reconnect the battery and power adapter and try charging again.
  • Test with Another Power Adapter: If possible, try using another compatible power adapter to see if the issue lies with the charger itself. This can help you determine if the problem is with the laptop or the adapter.

Regarding your concern about leaving the laptop unused for a few months, while it's generally good practice to avoid leaving a battery fully discharged for a long time, it shouldn't prevent the laptop from charging altogether in this manner.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
