@fatemekarimi122,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

It sounds like your laptop is experiencing a power delivery issue, which could be caused by software settings, the charger, or a hardware fault. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem:

1. Basic Checks:

  • Use a different charger (if available) – A faulty adapter may not supply enough power when the laptop is on.
  • Inspect the charging port – Dust, debris, or damage can interfere with charging.

2. Perform a Hard Reset:

  1. Turn off the laptop and unplug the charger.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
  3. Plug the charger back in and turn the laptop on.

3. Check Battery & Power Settings in Windows:

  1. Device Manager → Expand Batteries
  2. Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method BatteryUninstall device
  3. Restart the laptop to let Windows reinstall the driver.

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Battery Test and AC Adapter Test.
  • If the AC Adapter Test fails, the charger may need to be replaced.

5. Update BIOS & Drivers:

  • Open HP Support Assistant or visit the HP Support website to check for BIOS, chipset, and power management updates.

6. Try a Different Power Outlet & Charger:

  • If possible, test with another compatible HP charger to rule out adapter issues.

7. Possible Hardware Issue:

If none of these steps work, the problem may be related to the charging circuit on the motherboard, which would require service.

Additional Questions for Troubleshooting:

  • Did this issue start after a Windows update?
  • Does the charging light behave normally when the laptop is on vs. off?

Let me know the results, and I’ll be happy to assist further!

Kind Regards,
