I’ve been researching the premium laptop for engineering , and two models keep showing up as favorites from trusted sources. The Asus Vivobook S 14 is the top recommendation by NYTimes Wirecutter, while the M4 MacBook Air 15-inch is the top pick by CNET. Both seem like great options, but I’d love to hear from someone who’s actually used them—any real-world experience would help!
1. Asus Vivobook S 14
The Asus Vivobook S 14 has a beautiful OLED display that’s bright, sharp, and color-accurate—great for creative work like photo editing or design. It runs on the Intel Core Ultra 7 chip, which gives it plenty of speed for multitasking, and it still manages to stay light and portable. Battery life looks solid too, and overall it seems like a great all-around laptop for work and media without going full premium in price.
2. M4 MacBook Air 15-inch
On the other hand, the M4 MacBook Air 15-inch is Apple’s latest, and from what I’ve read, it’s incredibly fast, silent (no fan), and extremely energy-efficient thanks to the new M4 chip. The larger 15-inch display gives it a more immersive feel for creative tasks, and it’s still super slim and light to carry around. It looks like the ideal choice for anyone in the Apple ecosystem who wants serious performance in a clean, minimal design.
If you’ve used either of these laptops, I’d really appreciate your thoughts. I’m trying to pick and hearing from someone who actually owns one would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!
