Hello,

Recently, I have noticed that my biometric devices is missing on my device manager.

I have a fingerprint scanner and I recently installed the driver to realize that my biometric devices is missing.

Is there any way this problem is fixable?

Thank you.

Hi @VV_viel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Did the fingerprint scanner work before, or is this the first time you’re trying to use it?
  • Which driver did you install, and was it from HP’s official website?
  • Have you recently installed any Windows updates or made changes to your system before this issue started?
  • Are you seeing any “Unknown device” entries or warning icons in Device Manager?

In the meantime, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check for Hidden Devices:
    • Open Device Manager, click View → Show hidden devices, and see if the fingerprint scanner appears.
  2. Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver:
    • If the scanner was previously installed, uninstall the driver, restart your laptop, and then reinstall the latest driver from HP’s support site.
  3. Check Windows Biometric Settings:
    • Go to Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options and see if Windows Hello Fingerprint appears.
  4. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers:
    • Sometimes, biometric devices require the latest BIOS or chipset driver to function properly. Check HP’s support site for your model.
  5. Run Hardware Troubleshooter:
    • Press Win + I → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Hardware and Devices to see if Windows can detect the fingerprint scanner.

I hope this helps.
