I purchased a WD Black SN850X 2TB NVME SSD to replace the boot drive in my laptop. It reads fine in Windows 11, but in the bios it acts like it's not there after I disconnect the old drive. But when I still have the old drive connected it can detect it, but refuses to boot from the new drive, no matter the settings I would change in the bios.
Would updating the bios or firmware in the new drive help fix this issue?

If the old drive is working, you need to clone the old drive to the new one and be sure to allow partitions on the new drive to be removed. Use this software to do the cloning.
Your system my be too old but possibly you could do a factory restore to the new drive
HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.
