HP Envy 700-329
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi.

Can anyone tell me if there are any plans to provide an updated bios that addresses the "spectre" issue for desktop model HP Envy 700-329?

I do not see an updated bios listed on the software page for this model.

There are some HP Envy 700 models listed on this page below as pending but not sure if any of them are applicable to Desktop/PC HP Envy 700-329:

Anyone know? Thanks.

Your model should be included in one of the listings for HP ENVY 700-xxx. You can check in BIOS for your specific ROM Family SSID.

Hi CherylG.

I was actually asking for someone else. I'll ask them what the  ROM Family SSID is.

So you think it is likely that it will be updated? There is just a pending there with no date offered.

There was some thinking by some people in various forums that certain older haswell etc cpus might not be updated and just have to make do with Microsofts Microcode software releases.

Thanks Banhien.

Yes I have that tool but that only shows you if you are protected from Spectre and Meltdown after you have applied the software and bios fixes. The person needs the bios update to be fully protected against Spectre and for the tool to reflect that.

According to the list in the bulletin you can expect a BIOS update. HP has been releasing them a few at a time as they test machines with the new microcode. With the many hundreds of models this has not been a small task. Combined with the fact Intel initially released microcode to manufacturers that caused more problems and had to pull it and start over it has been a long process.

Okay so if his ROM family Id is one of those four:

HP ENVY 700-xxx (ROM Family SSID 2AF3)

HP ENVY 700-xxx (ROM Family SSID 2AF7)

HP ENVY 700-xxx (ROM Family SSID 2B2C)

HP ENVY 700-xxx (ROM Family SSID 2B36)

then he should expect a new bios update?

What does 700-0xx versus 700-xxx mean? Does part of model number in first one start with a letter or zero?

HP Recommended

@tomstar

Actually you missed one. I added it above.

Yes 700 0xx would be any models  up to 700 099. The 700 xxx series should include 700 100-700 399 series.
