Dear HP,
Firstly, I would like to emphasize that I really love your products and the level of support you offer.
I have an older laptop, an OMEN HP 15-dc1008nx, which is no longer supported by you. The latest BIOS update is F29 from January 2024.
Would it be possible for you to consider providing a BIOS version with unlocked advanced settings?
I would like to disable core boosting. I know that this can be done through third-party applications such as ThrottleStop or by modifying the power plan in the control panel.
The thing is, my laptop is getting quite old, and I mainly use it for browsing the internet. I even replaced the thermal paste with liquid metal from a well-known and trusted brand with a bear logo.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could make a small adjustment to the BIOS for this device and allow access to advanced settings.
I am a professional user who knows how to handle hardware and am fully aware that these are very invasive settings that could potentially cause damage to the device.
Kind Regards,
Mateusz.

Hi @Mati91
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're seeking a custom BIOS modification to unlock advanced settings on your HP OMEN 15-dc1008nx laptop, particularly to disable core boosting, and I can see why that would be appealing to someone with advanced knowledge of hardware.
Unfortunately, HP (and most other manufacturers) typically do not provide custom BIOS modifications or unlock advanced settings for end users for a few reasons:
1. Warranty and Support Risks:
- Modifying BIOS settings, especially unlocking advanced options like core boosting, can cause instability in the system, especially for older hardware. These changes might also void any remaining warranty or support, even if your device is no longer under warranty. HP’s official policy is likely focused on ensuring system stability and preventing issues that could arise from improper settings being altered.
2. System Integrity & Stability:
- Disabling core boosting or adjusting other low-level CPU settings can sometimes lead to overheating or system crashes if not done carefully, even if you're using high-quality thermal paste and know how to manage hardware. That's why BIOS updates are often limited in their accessibility to avoid users accidentally making settings that could destabilize the system.
3. No Custom BIOS Releases:
- HP doesn't generally release "custom" BIOS versions on request. They provide official updates that are intended for general use and have been tested for system stability and security. Custom BIOS versions are typically only available for certain use cases, such as business or enterprise-level requests, and typically come with a significant amount of risk.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
