omen 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I hope you're all well.

I'm currently experiencing a huge issue... Not only am I stuck abroad but now having to deal with a half-broken laptop. For some reason, all of the sudden last night my laptop couldn't get passed the omen logo screen whilst booting up; it just displayed a black screen.

Things I tried:

  • Running it in safe mode via command prompt to uninstall graphic drivers (bear in mind I tried it multiple times, even with UUD software) but then as soon as the laptop comes back up and the gfx gets detected it just goes black again and I cant do anything
  • Installing different version of drivers
  • Connecting to other screens and monitors
  • rolling back on windows and trying 4 different versions
  • opening up the laptop, taking out components such as the battery, ram, etc etc.
  • Running hp component check: all passed each time
  • i made sure every connection is solid and all cables are fine

and many more... The only time the laptop really works is when I boot it up in safe mode, disable my RTX 2060, and boot it up normally.

Any suggestions please? I really cannot send this product to HP, I am abroad and I rely on this laptop in order to survive (I work on it).

Thanks

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest performing system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.

While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you, I have already solved the black screen issue when GFX is enabled but now I'm onto another one.

The cause of the problem was FOR SOME STRANGE reason was the laptop screen, I have ordered a new one and tried to switch it, unfortunately the laptop screen itself is completely dark but the extended screen is now fine and it works with the graphics card. I ran stress tests and everything seems fine.

Now, I am sure the current problem is to do with the screen 40pin connector cable being broke. It keeps falling out and the tape doesn't do it anymore. I am finding great trouble finding the right cable to replace it. Could you help me find the right cable online please?

The laptop model is: OMEN by HP 15-dc1003nw

In addition, I'd like to add I already went through the points you have mentioned and literally nothing worked.

- System reinstall

- FORMAT with different version of windows

- Tried installing different versions of nvidia graphics card drivers (both through manufacturer website and device manager) - Also tried various ways; like uninstalling and installing in safe mode, etc.

- Trying different screens and different cables like DP mini or HDMI

- Tried taking out various components like the battery, ram, etc.

- Tried hard resets

- Tried BIOS reset and different versions.

And the only thing that worked was changing the screen. Well, not fully. The screen itself doesnt connect (although windows device manager picks up two screens one of them is disabled and cannot be enabled). I know the 40 PIN edP cable isn't holding on, its a 144hz lcd matrix. I have searched all over the web and I cannot find it, worth to mentioned I am stuck in Poland so I am searching through websites like allegro.pl which contains thousands of 40eDP cables but i have no idea which one would fit.

@Echo_lake

I already contacted HP support in both Poland and UK. Unfortunately, neither were of any help so I give up.

In addition, UK support attempted to search for the necessary cable online and they weren't able to find it. I searched for one everywhere myself and it's just not available for purchase (I have the serial number saved on the laptop).

I have been given the opportunity to give my laptop to HP for 2-4 weeks, but I kept trying to explain  I cannot do that because I use it for work on daily basis whilst stuck in Poland and I cannot afford to just not work for a month especially whilst stuck abroad....

So there is that. I'm disappointed hp cannot just send me a cable in this desperate time of need, I would swap the **bleep** cable myself without hassle.
