This is the first post I've made on this forum, because this is the first problem I've ever had with this computer. Recently, I decided it would be nice to have a Blu ray drive in my computer, as my computer only came with a standard DVD drive in it. I saw another post on here that said as long as it is the right size with the right connector, it will fit. So I bought one, specifically an HP model BU10N Blu-Ray/DVD writer. I slid the old one out, which still worked, transferred the little bracket, and the new one slid in perfectly. I powered the laptop on, and realized that Windows wasn't recognizing it. It wasn't even listed in device manager (there is no drop-down menu for DVD drives anymore). I pressed the button on the outside of the drive, and nothing happened. I tried to put the old one back in, which I knew was working perfectly, and the same thing happened. The weird thing is that the BIOS detects both drives, but Windows will not. I even tried the "upperfilter" and "lowerfilter" registry edit thing, but none of those filters were listed so I couldn't delete those. On the other forum post I read it said that no drivers were necessary, but I have no idea about that. Maybe the chip that the drive plugs into was damaged? It looks fine to me. I'm at a complete loss. Any help is greatly appreciated.

So the old drive now no longer works either? It's possible to burn out the port if you try to make the swap while the laptop is on. Not sure that is what happened but it seems something electrical is going on if the eject buttons no longer work.

Yes, the old one now no longer works either, and the eject buttons don't work either. I had the laptop off with the battery out both times I did this, so I'm not sure how the port could have gotten burned out. Do you know of any way to test the port? Thankfully with this model, the port is its own separate chip, and is not directly connected to the motherboard, so if that's the problem it should be an easy swap. It's probably an electrical problem, but it seems weird because in the BIOS, it lists the drive. It normally wouldn't do that if there wasn't one connected, right?
