Out of the box, brand new. High pitched fan noise kind of like a whining jet engine which goes up and down depending on activity. I gave it a week to work through it's new computer updates. Even after original updates the problem comes and goes, I can hear it whining from the other side of the room. I had a similar problem with an earlier HP Pavilion laptop for which I ordered a replacement fan, it was much quieter, unfortunately getting it I broke the case a little, which made the screen hinge a little loose for the life of the machine. Now here I am again, do I send it back for a replacement and start all over again? I hate returning things, especially after I've gone through the labor of getting the computer set up, which also takes time. I like the computer but not the fan whine. Come on HP, can't you solve this problem?

@tB1000, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Fan Noise on a New HP Laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Fan noise on a new HP laptop can indeed be concerning, especially if it's noticeable from across the room. This problem often correlates with the workload on your laptop or automatic system processes, such as updating and indexing. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially mitigate the issue:
Check for System Updates:
- Make sure that your laptop is entirely updated. Go to Windows Updates and ensure that there are no pending updates which may cause the fan to run at high speeds due to background processing.
Power Settings:
- Adjust your power settings to balance or power-saving mode to reduce processor performance, which can decrease fan usage.
- Go to 'Control Panel' > 'Hardware and Sound' > 'Power Options' and select a power plan that provides optimal cooling settings.
Task Manager Monitoring:
- Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to identify programs that might be causing high CPU usage, leading to increased fan activity.
BIOS Update:
- Check if there's an updated BIOS available for your model from the HP Support site.
- Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve fan control issues.
Clean Air Vents:
- Ensure that the air vents are not obstructed. You can lightly use compressed air to remove dust that might be blocking airflow.
Software Solutions:
- Consider installing HP's software utilities which may have additional fan control features. HP provides a variety of solutions like HP Support Assistant which might help manage system updates and performance settings.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
