Hi, My laptop has some whirring sound that starts, when I turn on my laptop and often stops for a few minutes as well but then, starts again. The sounds remains there even if two or three google websites are open only or no other software or video is running.
Infact, it had some sound yesterday like if something got stuck and now, trying hard to start again and then, got stuck and again trying hard to start again. The laptop continued making such sound for a minute till I turned it off.
The laptop works fine and does not over-heat. Its processing speed is normal. The base gets heated up a little bit but I think that it is normal. Also, I never dropped the laptop on floor or used it roughly. There are no tasks in my task manager except google chrome at this moment but the sound is still there. Also, I have nothing extra in my startup.
I changed the settings in "power options". Like, I set 10 minutes for the hard disk to turn off on battery and 20 minutes for the time, when it is plugged in. Also, I changed the system cooling policy and set it as passive on battery but active, when plugged in.
After this change in settings, the laptop makes similar sounds but now, there is some longer pause between them. Like, there are no sounds for almost 5-10 minutes (probably) and then, it starts making the sounds again (and so on).
I am much worried about this sound as it was not there when I bought the HP laptop. The laptop speed and performance is very impressive except this sound.
Since, this is my first year in USA and this is the first time, I bought HP laptop. I am much worried about it.

@AyeshaSiddique, Welcome to HP Support Community!
Connect a headphone to the pc and check if the noise appears from the headphones or the speaker. If it is the headphones as well, this could be an issue with the audio card, if not the speakers or fan.
Meanwhile, to resolve issues such as Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly:
- Updating your Notebook computer BIOS
- Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean
- Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat
- Using Windows Task Manager to identify corrupt processes
- Selecting power save settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use
