Just got it from microcenter. after hours doing windows updates including those optional ones that push down HP drivers, I cannot get the laptop to connect to my thunderbolt monitor (Innocn 27m2v nor 32m2v; I have both). the same monitor connects perfectly to my work thinkpad x1 carbon, my 2021 M1 Macbrook Pro, a 13th Gen Asus Studiobook 16 Pro, and others. It used to connect perfectly to my AMD Zephyrus G14 but I sold that laptop so I cannot test it anymore. normally I let the laptop be powered by the monitor and I also have a keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor and the lights on the keyboard do not come up.

The laptop gives me the alert that it reccomends using a HP power source. so I tried first using the HP Charger that came with the laptop, and only then to connect the thunderbolt monitor but I get the same problem. no video signal, no activity in the keyboard/mouse.

I suspect this is a Trusted Device/Security Issue (In some intel laptops I remember getting the "do you trust this tunderbolt device" in other instances) but I dont know how AMD licensed the thunderbolt spec on this laptop.

So far, I am leaning to just return this to microcenter tomorrow, but if anyone knows if this is a known issue or how to solve it, please share. As it stands I cannot turst this laptop to be my daily driver on the road, if I cannot connect to monitors later on.

  1. Check Thunderbolt Compatibility: Ensure that your HP laptop's USB-C port supports Thunderbolt connectivity. Some USB-C ports are typical data transfer ports and may not support video output.

  2. Update Drivers and Firmware:

    • Make sure all HP drivers are up-to-date. You can use the HP Support Assistant to automatically detect and install the latest drivers.
    • Visit the HP website and enter your laptop's model number to check for any Thunderbolt firmware updates specific to your device.
  3. Thunderbolt Software:

    • Ensure that Thunderbolt software is installed on your HP laptop. Sometimes, specific Thunderbolt drivers or management software are required for proper functionality.
  4. Check Display Settings:

    • Go to Settings > System > Display and see if the monitor is detected. If not, try to "Detect" manually.
    • Ensure that the correct input source is selected on your monitor.
  5. Test with Another Cable:

    • Ensure that you're using a high-quality Thunderbolt 3 or 4 cable. Test with another cable if possible to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.
  6. Port Issues:

    • Try connecting to a different USB-C/Thunderbolt port on your HP laptop if available.
    • Please let us know if this helps
