HP Laptop 17-by1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have had my HP 17 since May 2020, and after 11 months of use, the left hinge started coming loose, cracking the plastic around it. I have not been able to close it or travel with it since April of this year (it is now almost August) because it cracks more, knocking the plastic out of place. I have had to hold it together with electrical tape, but now the right side is starting to feel loose too. I have never dropped my laptop, gotten it wet, left it in any extreme temperature, nothing. I take great care of my electronic devices. I had a Dell Inspiron for 11 years that actually still is usable and intact (albeit slow now), but this HP laptop has such thin plastic that it broke after less than a year of use. A quick online search shows that I'm not remotely the first person to have this issue with HP. What can I do to fix this and is HP doing anything to make these computers better quality?

Hi@misstee397,

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Apologies for all the inconvenience

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. This sounds like hardware related issue with the hinge assembly and in order to fix this issue,  your computer needs to be serviced.  As we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now.

I would request you to reach out to our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to check the available service options in order to diagnose the computer physically.  HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:  www.hp.com/contacthp/
