During the process of rotating my screen from the laptop format over to the tablet setup where my thumb was on the top of the screen the screen popped and is now spider webbed out with a broken screen. This seems like something that should not have happened during operation. Would this replacement be covered under my existing warranty as I have only had the computer for 10 months?

No. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. The screen is not covered due to breakage resulting from an external physical force. At least you are honest and describe how it happened. Most people just say "it broke, I have no idea how". We can help you locate a replacement screen and provide replacement instructions. It is likely not as expensive or difficult as you fear.
