So, yes, I'm am now an official member of the HP Envy laptop design flaw in which one of the hinges spontaneously fails. My laptop, which was difficult to afford during the post-Covid days, has been great. I use it frequently and as an older adult and Army veteran it helps to keep me in contact with the world. It was purchased March '22 and lives a life of ease gently cared for by my chair. Just three days ago I finished up and when closing the lid heard a snap of plastic. Not only will the lid not shut it bulges and pops open the entire keyboard if I try. So it now remains eternally open with the right side hinge/keyboard area separated. It is, of course out of warranty. I am so saddened and disappointed.

Hi @BrokenHingeFlaw,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that this is a Hardware issue. Since the unit might need repair, I would request you to contact HP Phone support who can schedule a repair as per the warranty and the issue can be fixed.
For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.
Please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

As stated in my post the unit, purchased new in March '22, is beyond the warranty period. However with minimal research it would appear this is a longstanding and prevalent design flaw. I was hoping HP would offer a good faith loyalty no-cost repair to the unit.

Is there anyone at HP willing to do a good faith repair for this item? This is not "damage" that needs "repair" (a quoted price of $300). This was and is a quality control issue. As a senior and US military vet who can't neither afford a new laptop nor a repair that is equivalent to 50% of new purchaser price I was hoping HP would quietly step up. Being in my 60's I have purchased a lifetime of HP products and this is the 1st time asking for support.
