HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0096au

One of the hinges on my envy has broken after only 2 years, with no damage to the laptop and only minimal use of the hinge as the laptop is often left open.  After this occurred, I did some internet searching and was very disappointed to read that this is a common problem that seems to be caused by poor manufacturing.  Is there a way to fix the broken hinge?  It makes the laptop rather unusable.

I have had my Envy x360 for under 2 years and the hinge on left side broke and separated the bottom corner of my screen.  Other than that the computer is in perfect condition.  I went on to see if any others were having the same issue and found the same complaints.  Is HP repairing these because there seems to be a design flaw? If my laptop was used more frequently I am sure it would have broken sooner.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to report that I've just suffered exactly the same issue, the left hinge on my 2 year-old Envy x360 failed last night when I was closing the lid. I'd appreciate it if someone could contact me to take me through the process of getting this repaired - it certainly seems like this is a frequent issue with this model, which is a shame because it's been an excellent laptop up to now!

Many thanks.

I have found that this problem is common and HP may have known about this hinge issue.  I did get a response but it is for in warranty items only.  I still attempted to call and was disconnected after being on hold.  This problem appears to be a design flaw.  I did a simple search when this happened and there was a lot of information came up regarding this.

Disappointing if they're not doing anything about this for machines over a year old. A major structural failure to a 2 year old (and well-treated) machine is bad enough, but caused by what is apparently a known design defect? I guess they think the risk of a class action is low enough to avoid having to really acknowledge / address this. I haven't had a response from an HP rep to my post either, which is also disappointing.

Well, lesson learned I guess, albeit expensively.
