While attempting to put an SSD in my wife's computer, it looks like the zif connector for the keyboard broke off of the motherboard.  I'm attaching a pic.  Id appreciate any suggestions.

Do i need to replace the motherboard and, if so, where could I purchase one that I know will work (not have other broken parts)

If there is a repair, how to do it

Or should i just purchase her a new laptop and if so where could I get the best price (this one came from staples)

Gotta make  the wife happy asap.  THanks.IMG_20191208_074438804.jpg

There are technicians who could reapply/solder that connector but I am not one of them and I do not know where to tell you to find one locally to you.It seems like using a sledge hammer to kill a gnat, but the easiest is just to replace the motherboard. The model you give is missing a digit so please double check and report the full model number and we can go from there. The laptop is old enough we can likely find you a motherboard or a parts donor unit with maybe a cracked screen for less that it would cost to have a tech do the repair. Also happy to discuss new laptop but that is a topic we could write a book about. Need to know how the computer would be used and budget. This is the best time of year for a new laptop.

My wife just likes to google, email, facebook, store pictures; not a gamer or anything like that.  She does want a CD/DVD player.

I have the 1T SSD drive with her data on it; the computer boots up fine but just keyboard dead right now.

I'm kind of reluctant to try to change the motherboard after the debacle with the zif connector.  As it was to change the hard drive I had to take half of the computer apart.  Do you know where I could get a working motherboard and how hard it would be to replace?   In the alternative, any idea where I could get a good price on a laptop that would be fast and make her happy?

I could find you a working motherboard but its not a simple thing to replace a laptop motherboard and respectfully, you have already demonstrated shall we say a bit of a problem with working on a laptop. Your "handle" seems to indicate you may be an attorney, which profession I happen to also share. Send me a PM and we can work this out offline. I have some ideas.
