HP 15s-Dou
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi experts, my built in microphone is not working after a Windows 10 update, the microphone was still functioning the day before during my meeting.  The update was performed on "shutdown & update" during power off.  Built-in microphone functions or listens to videos and music played on laptop. But it does not work on, Cortana, Zoom, Google Search, FB Messenger, Microsoft recording and Skype. Tried to perform microphone test, and driver update but it did not crack the issue. Tried to run Trouble shoot, but it cannot detect the problem.  I tried the sound manager and sound settings, still it does not work.. 😞 ... I am using HP Laptop 15s-duo, and I executed the diagnostics from HP Support Assistant> Fix Audio issues. It reported that there were no problems detected. The microphone is REALTEK (R) Audio, driver RTKVHD64.sys ver. 6.0.8924.1

Does anyone have the same problem? I need help.

@gabby_98 I have a few steps to help you out:

The Troubleshooting tool automatically finds and fixes many computer issues. Use it to troubleshoot microphone problems.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

  2. Click Troubleshooting.

  3. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio recording.

    NOTE:

Administrator permission is required to run this program. If prompted, type the administrator password or provide confirmation.

  4. The Sound troubleshooter opens. Click Next. The troubleshooter begins checking the audio service status.

  5. Select the device you want to troubleshoot, and then click Next.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions and make any changes suggested by the troubleshooter. When done, close the troubleshooter.

  7. If the problem persists, continue to the next step.

We may need to reset the privacy settings for the Microphone if the issue occurred after any recent windows updates:

  1. Open Settings from your start menu.
  2. Click on Privacy in order to access all your privacy settings.
  3. Select Microphone from the left pane and then click the Change button.
  4. Now, turn on the microphone for this device.
  5. Turn on Allow apps to access your microphone.
  6. Finally, in the app list, make sure to turn on microphone access for every app you want to give permission to access your microphone.
  7. Repeat the same exact steps but for your webcam this time.

If the issue persists, uninstall the microphone driver and restart to automatically install a fresh driver for the same.

  1. Open device manager, the fastest way is through the search bar:
  2. Open ‘Audio Inputs and Outputs’
  3. Left-click on your recording device.
  4. In the menu that opens up Click ‘Uninstall’.
  5. delete the driver. click apply/OK and then, restart the pc.

Hi, @Riddle_Decipher

Thanks for welcoming me! Also, thank you for your recommendations but the problem still persists. Are there other solutions related to audio drivers? Based from device manager, the Microsoft audio driver is v.1904.450 and the available HP Realtek HD audio driver is v.6.0.8924.1. Are these two compatible?

Update the Bios, chipset and graphics drivers using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Hi,

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggest you perform the system file check.

1) Select Start, and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.

2) Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").

3) Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

If the issue still persists, please uninstall the audio drivers and update the chipset and restart the computer.

Then install the audio drivers and check.

Please click the below link to download the drivers.
