HP Laptop 15-da0077TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
My one month old laptop is hanging every second after 10-20 minutes usage of 3D softwares like ANSYS and watching movies. After I checked this forum, I found the 100% disk usage on task manager and system really hanged when it cycles back to 100% disk however this is not only the case as at startup also 100% disk is shown in task manager but the softwares were working fine. Then I checked the scan and repair tool in C drive and it showed error and after starting the automatic repair in before startup screen, it skipped from 69% to 100% everytime. Now all the softwares requiring administration permission was not opening including task manager, command prompt, software installation etc and also stuck in blue when I tried to get safe mode from system->updates and recovery->restart option. So thus system reset option could not be reached, and even if it was reached once but failed to compete the system reset. I remembered once I added svchost.exe as exclusion on windows defender protection settings from reading an internet article and now this exclusion couldn't be removed. I also once changed the power option to high performance and setting hard disk resetting from 20 minutes on battery to never and then to 180 minutes but after this problems got worse, I reset to default power settings but Disk error continued whenever I tried opening a software with administrator permission, however other softwares opening fine but hangs frequently. HP PC hardware diagnostics showed Short DST failed with the failure Id: U4N363-0009N1-XD7W3F-60TL03

I am unable to create a system image or system repair disc as the cursor is just refreshing giving no response or error. Can I create a windows 10 system image from my friend and install in my laptop after I get the HDD repaired? Will be any activation issue for reinstalling windows from different laptop?

Hi,

You need to remove and replace the drive. You can either replace the 2.5" HDD or remove the 2,5" HDD and install a super fast M2 PCIe NVMe SSD.

You could install an M2 PCIe NVMe SSD in the machine

Examples:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S1T0B/dp/B07MFZY2F2/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=970+evo+plu...

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-500GB-NAND-NVMe-PCIe/dp/B07J2WBKXF/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=crucial+p...

Or you can replace the Hard Drive

Basically, you can use any 2.5" SATA3 Hard Drive (max 2TB because of the thickness of drive). You could also replace with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD (of your desired capacity) which would give a great boost to the everyday performance of the notebook.

Examples:

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-500GB-NAND-Internal/dp/B0784SLQM6/ref=sr_1_2?crid=184962H9H6KFC...

On page 45 of the service manual, you can see the steps to replace the drive

To install Windows again:

Download media creation tool from Microsoft on PC (different PC), run and create a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. (there is an explanation on the Microsoft web page on how to create the pendrive). Create the drive with Windows 10 Home 64-bit edition. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to the Internet as long as the old Windows installed on the PC was activated. If asked for product key during installation, click on "do not have one".

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS (probably not). So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off the PC by holding the power button. Press the power button and immediately keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in the boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows.

When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times.

I recommend installing HP support assistant which will help keep your drivers up to date and much more. You can download the latest version from here.

https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html

Once completely updated you can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on HP support page for your product.
