Hello!

My cd/dvd writer can't burn. It can read, not burn. Is it due to firmware?

I send a pic with error messages...

Maybe firmware would help if you can find any. The first thing to try is a laser cleaner disk. But optical drives often fail in parts; i.e. one specific function will not work while others do. Its because there is more than one laser with different wavelengths and lasers can go bad separately. If the read function goes bad its easy to test separate from the OS by trying to boot from the drive. But if only the burn function goes bad it is not so easy. Here are a few tips to try:

If none of this works the fix is going to be replacement of the drive.

Thanks for answering!

I've tried a laser disk cleaning but it didn't work.

The problem is the read function goes well. Only the burning doesn't.

Sorry, i'm not so pratical. Is it difficult to find the firmware? Where do i have to look for?

Thanks!

It would be on the driver page for your model. I checked and the only firmware offered is for a Seagate hard drive not a DVD player. Try the fixes in the link I gave you particularly the registry edits and if those don't work we can help you with a DVD drive replacement. They have gotten cheap since few people even use a DVD drive any more and the replacement is extremely easy to do.

I checked the registry edits. I didn't find the "lower filters" as described in the link...but i found a strorprop.dll.

What's that? Can i fix it?Immagine2.png

Don't mess with it. If you delete or disable that registry key you may not get an Optical Drive to work even if you replace it.

Looks like you need to get a new drive. Post back if you want help finding one and let us know what country you live in so we can find a workable site for you.

Thanks!

I think i'll do it. I'll replace the drive.

Thanks for answering...and for supporting me!
