Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone! I've problems with the optical unit of my laptop. Windows 10 doesn't detect any CD/DVD disks, but in the Bios compares under the boot options. In device management the unit is hide, and the properties reports an error message (45), like it were disconnected. So I disassembled it and cleaned the contact, but nothing changed. I tried also to find on regedit the upper filters to delete, but I didn't find those voices. Finally I tried with a live USB Ubuntu, that also doesn't find the unit.

What can I do?

P.s. the unit is "super multi dvd driver GU90N"

Thanks

Hi@Paolo79, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand the CD/DVD drive is missing from the device manager on your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes to your PC?

As you mentioned the DVD drive is missing from the device manager.

Try removing the optical drive from your laptop and reseat the drive back in securely and check if it is getting listed.

Please try the steps recommended below.

Unplug all non-essential external plug and play devices, especially cameras, and complete the following steps.
Click Start, and type "regedit" into the Start Search field.
The registry editor window appears.
Select Computer in the main window.
Click File, Export, type a filename that is easy for you to remember, and click Save.
A copy of the registry has saved for back-up purposes to the Documents folder. If problems occur after using these steps, browse to the file and double-click it to restore the registry.
Click the plus sign (+) next to the following items in the list:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
Select 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318. Make sure you have selected this exact key name.
Select the LowerFilters value and press the Delete key. Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot CD/DVD Drive Is Not Detected.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps, it is a hardware issue with the optical drive.

Thank you! I had already tried to remove and reseat the unit, and also to search the lower filters ,but there are not lower and upper filters  in the registry. I show you it in the picture attached.Immagine 2020-12-29 212313.png

 @Paolo79

We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to checked taking remote access so that get to know it's a hardware or software issue.

I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.
