I was using Windows Media Player to burn CDs, then it stopped working. Investigating, I noticed that my CD burner was no longer being recognized in file explorer. The device manager shows that the CD hardware (only visible if I view hidden objects) is no longer connected. I have an HP laptop running Windows 10 64-bit. I have no idea how to get it to come back. Tried all the HP fixes in Virtual Assistant and Community Home. It is not a driver issue. Please help.

If it is not even seen at a firmware layer, considering that it is an older laptop, it may have stopped working.
I see that your laptop is a Starwars Special Edition from 2015.
You can replace the DVD rewriter or use an external CD/DVD rewriter.
USB external rewriters are quite inexpensive these days at around $50.00 or less.
