Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

I was trying to reach out to HP for a replacement CMOS battery for my laptop but apparently my serial number is invalid. (Perhaps its to old for them to offer any support?)

I'm not very experienced working on laptops but the battery has a wire and wrap unlike the desktop motherboards where they just slot in. Can i just buy a normal 2032 and attach to the wire from the old battery or do i need to purchase one with the wire on it.

Thanks for any help provided it really is appreciated.

@CoreyTrevor,

Enter your model's product number (product ID) at the link below for parts list for your notebook.

HP PartSurfer

If you see a CMOS battery listed, get its part number and use it to search on vendors such as eBay and Amazon for a replacement CMOS battery.

If the parts list doesn't show a CMOS battery, check this eBay listing.

If the 2-pin connector is identical with the stock CMOS battery's, this will most likely work.

Hey thanks for the help  buddy. I got the part # and ill try and have a good look to see if i can find one for a good price. It seems like some are reverse polarity and some are normal I might just take a chance and hopefully buy the correct one lol.

I did see a video of a guy who used a standard 2032 by cutting the laptop ones sleeve off and gently prying the terminals off and taping them to his new one. I might have to get jiggy with it if i cant find a good price on a replacement.

So i tricked HP support into helping me by giving them the serial # for another of my products (I think its ridiculous i needed to do this HP!) but the support person helped me figure out that the  battery for HP 2560P ELITEBOOK is normal polarity.

"HP part #665733-001 is a CMOSRTC coin-cell battery assembly used in EliteBook and ZBook laptops.
These batteries are not polarity-reversible - they have a fixed normal polarity
(positive side facing up, negative side down) and are connected via a small harnessconnector.
You cannot use a reverse-polarity aftermarket battery; it must match the original orientation and connector wiring."

I just figured i would post this if anyone stumbled upon it looking for the same answer.
