Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So in the past few days while gaming i felt my laptop was getting pretty hot to touch with my hand so i got an app to see my cpu and gpu temps . So basically gpu is staying around 80 85 c but the cpu is going between 90-100 c and recently while gaming my laptop also instantly shut off and i figure its cause of over heating . If anybody could help me out on this and recommend what i should do (i would like to mention that rn its summer and where im living temps are reachign 40c celsius ) . Thank you

Hi @DavidDaveed,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your CPU 100C TEMP. The screen is not turning on Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.

1.    Turn off the Unit.

2.    Disconnect the AC adapter.

3.    Remove any discs from the disc drive.

4.    Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

5.    Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

6.    Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.

7.    Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.

Step 2

Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit

Step3

The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice  and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit

Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.

Please  update Windows and HP support assistances updates

Here are some potential causes and solutions.

  • Dust accumulation: Over time, dust can accumulate on the fan and heat sink, which can block the airflow and cause the CPU to overheat. Solution: Use compressed air to blow out any dust from the fan and heat sink.
  • Insufficient cooling: The built-in cooling system of the laptop might not be able to handle the heat generated by the CPU. Solution: Consider purchasing a cooling pad or a laptop cooling fan to help dissipate the heat.
  • Outdated drivers: If the CPU temperature issue started after updating drivers or operating system, there may be a compatibility issue. Solution: Check the manufacturer's website for any updated drivers or patches that may address this issue.
  • Malware or viruses: Some malware and viruses can cause high CPU usage, which in turn causes overheating. Solution: Run a full virus scan with your antivirus software to detect and remove any threats.
  • Overclocking: Overclocking the CPU can increase its performance, but it can also cause it to overheat. Solution: Reset the CPU settings to their default values.
  • High ambient temperature: If the ambient temperature around the laptop is high, it can contribute to the overheating of the CPU. Solution: Place the laptop in a cooler area, or use a fan to circulate the air around the laptop.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
