HP DV6700 ( CORE 2 DUO)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi I find in this forum about CPU & RAm upgrade of DV6700

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/HP-Pavillion-DV6000-processor-upgrade-ques...

I am also having DV6700 with present configuration

CPU - Core 2 duo T5550

RAM - DDR2 (1+2 GB @667 Mhz)

HDD - 250 GB @5400 RPM

OS - Win10 64 bit

BIOS - f.56

I have tested it with SATA SSD (250gb), it is working fine. Now I also wish to update RAM & CPU but since we dont get the parts by our choice being very obsolete series, I want to confirm which alternate options will fit & run in my notebook

1. CPU - I have read from above thread that T8100, T8300, T9300, and T9500 can fit in this model. It has socket type PGA478, I am getting either P9700 ( also socket type PGA478) but it has FSB as 1066 intead of 800 OR T7700, Ca I try with P9700 or it will not boot and I should go with T7700 only?

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/compare.html?productIds=29762,33918,42599

2. Can I use 800 MhZ RAM module upto max of 8 GB ( 4X2GB), presently it is using 667 Mhz.

3. SSD I have already tested, it is working with SATA port & Win 10 (64bit)

Thanks

Hi:

The Mobile Intel 965 chipset your notebook has only supports processors with a max FSB of 800 MHz, so no processor with a 1066 MHz FSB will work.

The best you can do would be the T9500.

Your notebooks chipset supports 2 x 4 GB of memory but it will only run at 667 MHz, which is the max the mobile version of the 965 chipset can run the memory at.

You will find that 2 x 4GB of DDR2 memory is very expensive and probably not worth the investment.

Thanks Paul for your reply.

I understand that buying 8GB of DDR2 is not worth moreover   4GB @667 is not available easily. I just wanted to ask  whether I  can put  in  800Mhz RAM, Iet it run at 667 MHZ (backward compatible) or it will  not be efficient?

As regard CPU , you mean any processor  that can fit in PGA478 socket and runs at 800MHZ can be used, in case I dont get the desired T9500 or  T9300?

I think P series of Intel Core 2 duo runs on 1066 Mhz  and as such can not be used in my board?

You're very welcome.

Yes, PC2-6400 memory will work just fine, but at 667 MHz.

I have 2 x 4 GB of PC2-6400 memory in my HP 6910p notebook with the same chipset and a T7500 processor.

Works just fine.

As far as processors...The T7500, T7700, T8100, T8300, T9300 and T9500 will work.  Anything else, I don't know.

No processor with a 1066 MHz FSB will work.  The Mobile Intel 965 chipset support maxes out at 800 MHz.
