Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey, y'all.  I have been refurbishing and upgrading older computers lately and my current job is the Pavilion G72-227wm.  I have already upgraded the RAM and added an SSD, but I find the T4500 with its mediocre 1mb of l2 cache to be severely hampering the potential of the system.  As such, I am looking for a list of compatible processors for the laptop.  Yes, I know it's old, but as I am fixing these systems up for less fortunate school kids and CPU prices have dropped substantially, it's a worthy endeavor.

Unfortunately, my board apparently is not one that can upgrade to the first-gen i-series processors, but I do know there are still other potential Socket P processors that will work.  I will identify the board information and BIOS version below.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

System Board: Model 1484, 77.39
System RAM: 8GB DDR2 (PC2-6400 @ 400MHz)
BIOS Version: F.37 (04/07/2011)
Chipset: GL40 Rev 07
Southbridge: 82801IM (ICH9-M) Rev 03

You're very welcome.

Although it has an 800 MHz FSB, I'm not sure about the T7700 because that is a different processor family (Merom).

There is no list to separate the processors out by FSB speed.

Here is a list of all Penryn processors:

Here's a T8300, ships from the USA which should also work.

Hi:

On notebooks with an Intel GL40 chipset, you are limited to installing Pentium processors that have a max FSB of 800 MHz.

Most folks install the Pentium T6600 in notebooks with the GL40 chipsets, or you can probably install the T9500.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of all 3 processors.

Paul,

Thanks so much for your reply!  Out of the two possible upgrades you suggested, to me, the only truly worthwhile upgrade would be the T9500, which is only available in China.  I have stumbled across the T7700 that is available in the continental US, so I was wondering what your thoughts on it would be.  It says it's an 800MHz FSB Socket P chip, and while there's not any significant change in clock speed, it does have 4MB of cache compared to the 1MB of cache the T4500 has.  What do you think?

Also, do you have a full list of the socket P processors or a link to one?  I am not sure if HP placed any other CPU limitations in the BIOS for the G72-227wm, but if they didn't, then that would be great as it would potentially expand my options.

Thanks again for the response!  I hope to hear back from you!

Thanks so much for your assistance, Paul!  I ultimately did opt for the T8300 and it made a noticeably positive impact on the system.  It also potentially leaves wiggle room down the road, should the T9500 or one of the other 800MHz FSB cpus become available at a lesser cost.  I also apologize for taking so long to reply.  I had forgotten my password.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance, and thanks for letting us know that the T8300 worked in the G72-227wm notebook.
