Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey everyone!

I have two 65W type C power delivery adapters (both specced for 20V@3.25A, one tested at 20V3.15A~ whilst other is tested at 19.8V3.21A~) and have been using them to charge my HP Envy 13t. However, when I plug my laptop in with type C PD, the CPU temperature suddenly shot up approximately 10C in temperature. Also, when any extended CPU load is applied (such as a stress test or a gaming load) and the laptop is plugged in via type C PD, the CPU starts off at 3.4GHz@1.1V with temps jumping up to 80C (running passively before load is applied), fan starts ramping up and the clockspeed+core voltage starts to decrease (as fan ramps up). After about 20 seconds, the fan is at max RPM whilst the core voltage has stabilised at 0.8V and clock speed is now at 2.1GHz. However, the CPU temperatures are at 55-60C so clearly, it is not a thermal issue. If the dedicated GPU (MX150) is also under a load, the clock speed of the CPU decreases even further to 1.8GHz.

Does this sound normal? I know that when running on battery (in high performance mode) and with the barrel plug AC adapter, it does not display this behaviour. In fact, in cinebench (a CPU benchmarking software), I get a 50% increase in score when on battery compared to being plugged in with type C PD.

I suggest you update the Graphics Card driver and the BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/ie-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-13-ah0000-laptop-pc/20283122/model/22745896 and check if that helps 😊
