Hi, I am an HP customer I have a question regarding upgrading my CPU on my 17-g121wm HP Pavilion, I read that the CPU is soldered to the mother board but is there any way to upgrade the CPU or make it go from 1.8 to 2.8 ghz. Please treat me like an actual customer and not some tool that you guys use, I have been mistreated by HP multiple times and I am aggrivated and frustrated with having to go through this process with your terrible customer service and bad products. Is there anything that I could buy so that I can acheive the goal of 2.8Ghz on my computer without being advised to buy another one. If I have to buy another computer I assure you that I will not be buying an HP because of your customer service and lemon products

Hi,
It is not possible to upgrade the CPU. Now you have the "1.8GHz up to 3.2GHz AMD Quad-Core A10-8700P APU" which means that your processor has base clock of 1.8GHz and when necessary will run at up to 3.2GHz, so probably will mainly be running at above the 2,8Ghz you mentioned when you are using processor intensive applications. You can see this by running Task Manager under performance heading. Naturally the single core strength of these AMD APUs is not as powerfull as Intel core strength.
However most modern processors in notebooks have this type of base clock which then can boost to higher levels. For example the i7 8550U in my notebook has a bas clock of 1.8GB with a boost speed up to 4GHz. So I believe CPUs with a base clock of 2.8GHz would be really hard to find. This is the same for any brand of notebook, not only HP.
Another thing which might be slowing your PC with certain applications is that it does not have a dedicated GPU.
An upgrade which would improve everyday performance of your PC would be to replace the mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.
Hope it helps,
David
