Pavilion DV6-6150US
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear,

as far as I could check, could be important that this laptop has a Compal ODM equipped motherboard inside, originally shipped with a dual-core 2nd gen Sand Bridge CPU Intel i5-2410M, and InsydeH2O configured in factory  to act as non-UEFI /MBR) BIOS.

Socket seems to be Socket G2 - rPGA988B, here are the shipped CPU specs;

shipped dual core CPU - Intel Core I5-2410M rPGA988B Socket G2shipped dual core CPU - Intel Core I5-2410M rPGA988B Socket G2

As I'm bridging the gap in-between jobs in this coronavirus situation,  dual-core i5, while okay at the time of purchase, simply can not keep up with Windows 10 64 bit and the amount of apps that need to be running.

It is possible to find that some Intel 3rd gen mobile Quad CPUs boot and operate normally on HM65 express chipset.

What I want to determine is whether that path is possible on this particular board/Laptop.

Which kind of I7-3xxx quad core would fit in this particular HP (i.e. Compal as ) laptop (QE with an adapter, QM,U,QM  .. etc.)

If not, by the same goal - which fastest 2nd gen quad core CPU works in it?

Thanks in advance,

@MD528 , welcome back to the forum.

Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the laptop:  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842252

In the section titled "Removal and replacement procedures" on Pages 96 thru 98, there is a list of compatible Intel processors and replacement procedures.  These processors have been fully tested to assure that they will be compatible with the motherboard.  Any other processors will most likely not be compatible.  HP has their motherboards made to their specifications and are not necessarily the same as retail boards.

Caution: Make certain that the processor can be replaced before buying a new one!
