HI, Can i upgrade my RAM from 4 gb to 12 gb i.e i have 2 slots in my pc and one 4gb ram and another 8 gb ram. they both are DDR3 and web shows that my pc can support upto 16 gb. so will the two slots having ram of different sizes be okay?? or it will create issue later on ??

12 gigs (4 + 😎 will work fine without later issues. You will not have what is called "dual channel" operation but that is a relatively minor issue. You would have dual chanel if you added another 4 gig module of the same kind as the original. This is the recommended memory module HP Part Number:

 

8-GB memory module 670034-001

This is DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM 1.5 volt memory. Not just any old DDR3 will work. You should try to match the configuration of the original 4 gig module. Look at how many black blocks of memory are on the side of the module. The one in the picture below is high density 1 row of 4. If your memory you have now is 2 rows of 4 = 8 blocks, get one like that.
