Hello,
On my 2021 HP Pavilion, the HP Support Assistant app says callibrate battery. However, I did that, following the steps. Does this mean I need to replace it? How do I get rid of the calibration battery message if i did the calibration and it's ok? Thanks!!

Hey @emg1279
When the HP Support Assistant continuously prompts you to calibrate your battery, even after performing the calibration, it may not necessarily mean you need to replace the battery.
- The "Calibrate" message in HP Support Assistant usually means the battery gauge software (the percentage you see) is out of sync with the actual charge in the battery cells. Calibration is meant to fix this.
- HP Support Assistant or HP PC Hardware Diagnostics will give you a specific status:
- Calibrate: The battery functions correctly but needs calibration to fix gauge accuracy.
- Weak/Very Weak: The battery functions correctly but has significantly reduced capacity due to normal aging. This is when replacement is recommended to restore full battery life.
- Replace/Failure: The battery has failed a hardware test. This is when immediate replacement is necessary.
Since you did the calibration and it seems okay, your battery might be fine, and the issue is likely with the software/firmware. Hence, here’s what you can try:
- Recalibrate if Necessary:
- If you suspect the calibration wasn't effective, try recalibrating the battery by following these steps:
- Fully charge the battery and then let it discharge completely.
- Charge it again uninterrupted to 100%. This ensures the calibration setting aligns with the battery's actual capacity.
If the message still persists, it's likely a software-side bug:
- Update BIOS: A persistent battery message can sometimes be fixed with a BIOS update, as the BIOS manages power and battery reporting. Check your HP Pavilion's support page on the HP website for the latest BIOS version.
- Reset the Battery Driver:
- Go to Device Manager (search for it in Windows).
- Expand the Batteries section.
- Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.
- Reinstall HP Support Assistant:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Find HP Support Assistant and Uninstall it.
- Restart your laptop.
- Download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the official HP website.
