Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue where my camera driver seems to have randomly uninstalled itself, and now I can't reinstall it. I've tried searching for the correct driver on the HP driver download site, but I'm not sure which one to choose or how to proceed. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, I've noticed that my built-in microphone has stopped working as well. I've been using an earphone mic as a workaround, but it's not ideal. I'm guessing the driver for the microphone might have uninstalled too.
Can anyone help with these issues?

Hi @Enfrade,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing driver-related issues with both the camera and microphone on your HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
Reinstall the Camera and Microphone Drivers
Check Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Cameras and Sound, video, and game controllers sections.
- If your camera or microphone is listed with a yellow exclamation mark or not listed at all, it indicates a missing driver.
Search for Hardware Changes:
- In Device Manager, right-click anywhere in the window and choose Scan for hardware changes. Windows will attempt to detect the missing camera and microphone.
Update or Reinstall the Driver:
- If the camera or microphone is detected but has a warning sign, right-click on it and choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- If no drivers are found, right-click the device and choose Uninstall device. After uninstalling, restart your laptop, and Windows should try to reinstall the driver automatically.
Use HP Support Assistant:
- Open HP Support Assistant (if not installed, download it from HP’s official website).
- It will automatically detect missing drivers and offer to install the latest camera and microphone drivers for your laptop.
Manually Install Drivers from HP’s Website
Go to the HP Support Page:
- Visit the HP Drivers & Software page and enter your laptop’s model number (HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13).
Download the Latest Camera and Audio Drivers:
- Look for the Camera Driver and Audio Driver under the list of drivers for your laptop. Download and install the latest versions.
- Restart your computer after installation.
Check Privacy Settings
If the camera and microphone are installed but still not working:
Camera Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Make sure the camera access for apps is turned on, and toggle the switch for the specific app you're using.

Microphone Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
- Ensure microphone access is enabled, and the apps needing the microphone are toggled on.
Run Windows Troubleshooter
Camera Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Camera and follow the instructions.
Microphone Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Recording Audio and follow the steps.
Windows Update
- Make sure Windows is fully updated. Sometimes, missing drivers can be automatically reinstalled with the latest update.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Check for updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
