Notebook: HP ProBook 440 G8 Notebook PC
OS: MS Windows 11 Pro
Version: 10.0.22000 Build 22000
Camera: HP-HD Camera
I bought my ProBook last July and it is still under warranty. The OS came pre-loaded. Everything was hunky-dory till my camera suddenly stopped working last week. Since then I have troubleshot the issue myself using MS remote tools as well as reaching out to the HP Helpdesk and the Microsoft Helpdesk but to no avail. Here's further information on the problem and the options that I have tried out so far.
The camera LED does light up when I start a Zoom session but my image does not appear.
The Microsoft camera App does make a clicking noise and 'flash' when I click on the camera icon but the pic is blank. There is no preview in the first place.
The camera does not have a physical shutter.
In the Camera section under Bluetooth and devices. the HP HD Camera is showing up.
In the Privacy & Security settings for the camera, both Camera access and 'Let apps access your camera' and 'Let desktop apps access your camera' are On. Similarly, the switches corresponding to each individual app (including Camera) are on.
I used the Troubleshoot option in Bluetooth & devices > Cameras > HP HD Camera and followed all the steps that came up but to no avail.
I used the 'Reset settings' option under Bluetooth & devices > Cameras > HP HD Camera but that did not work either.
In Device Manager, I tried (a) updating the driver for the camera and restarting the laptop, and when that did not make a difference, I tried (b) uninstalling the device and restarting the laptop but this did not yield anything either.
The MS Helpdesk asked me to search for a Fn key for the camera. I was not able to find one although for the Camera app, it turned out that by holding down <Fn> and <F12> simultaneously, it took a picture. But I wasn't able to locate a Fn key that functioned as a toggle for turning the camera on and off.
I am at my wits' end. Should I reinstall Windows 11? IS there something simple and obvious that I have overlooked? I look forward to help from the experts on this forum..
