I have an old Envy 15 laptop (Product ID G055SAV) with a quite slow 500Gb HDD (5400RPM).
Can the Envy 15 hold a second 2.5 inch HDD? Or is there space for only one 2.5 inch drive inside?
I don't want to install an M2 SSD on the MB because the Envy 15 MB can only handle a 256Gb M2 drive, which is far too small for my needs. I'd like to install a second regular-size 2.5" drive if that is possible.

No, it does not have physical place for a second 2.5" HDD/SSD but you can replace 500GB with 2TB HDD/SSD using Crucial MX500 series or Samsung 860 EVO SSD's, They are cheaper now.
Regards.

Hi Peter,
Can you provide the exact model or product number (the product id you gave produces no results) of your notebook for further help.
Here is how to find it:
Let me know,
David

Edit:
I do not know how @banhien knows what model we are talking about, however, if it does have an M2 slot, you can install an M2 SSD of your desired capacity (there is no limit to capacity). The 256GB limit you mention is probably what you read in the service manual, however that is not the limit, but the size of SSD some models in that series could have been bought with.
So, let us know the model number of the device.

David

Again my apologies for replying to my own post, but after sending the previous reply I realized I should describe *why* I am asking about using a second 2.5 inch drive in this laptop.
I checked with a local MicroCenter store about installing a new SSD 2.5 inch drive in place of the current slow HDD, but they apparently will NOT just image-copy my old drive to the new one. They will only copy "user files" for you (also meaning they will only install a *new* OS on the new drive rather than image copy the old OS to the new drive).
So I want to do the image copy myself (I have Paragon HDM 15 Pro available to do the copy), but if the case cannot hold two 2,5 inch drives then I cannot do the image copy myself. Unless there's a way to image copy the old drive when it is OUTSIDE the laptop case? Is there a way to do that?
Regards, and TIA for your assistance.

OK Peter.
Now, I do not believe the M2 slot is present on your motherboard as sometimes notebooks that did not come with M2 SSD are missing the physical slot and there is no dual storage mentioned for that series.
So you will need to replace the hard drive. To clone the drive you can use a USB to SATA cable/adapter
You can use the software which comes with the SSD to quite easily clone the old drive to the new SSD. So if you get the 2.5" SATA3 Samsung 860 Evo you can download and use Samsung migration software. For Crucial you can use Acronis software which comes bundled with the drive.
You can also perform a clean install yourself, if you want an then transfer the files to the new drive.

Hope it helps,

OK, I understand the possibility that the M2 slot (though possibly available) may not actually be usable.
So the procedure I would have to follow is:
1. Have technician replace 2.5 inch HDD with 2.5 inch SSD (I don't propose to do this myself, I'll surely break something)
2. Buy USB-to-SATA cable at same time as SSD
3. Plug in HDD to USB-to-SATA cable and USB end to laptop
4. Boot my Paragon disk manager software (or other software supplied by SSD manufacturer?) from DVD and do image copy
5. Reboot laptop from new image
6. Re-validate Win10 OS with Microsoft due to new hardware
Thanks again for your help with this effort.
Peter
