Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello.

I just got an HP x360 - 11-ab041tu laptop (product name: 1HP42PA) with 8GB RAM (1 slot).

Can this be upgraded to 16GB or not?

Many thanks.

You're very welcome.

All I can say is what the manual and the intel specs for the processor indicate for the memory...8 GB is the max.

If you want to experiment with a 16 GB memory module, that would be at your own risk.

I do see where the reviewer indicated 16 GB works, and even gave the memory part number to use.

A 16 GB DDR3L memory chip will be very expensive.

Hi:

Your notebook has one memory slot, and the max the slot can take is an 8 GB memory module.

So in order to upgrade the memory, you would have to remove the existing 4 GB memory module and replace it with an 8 GB memory module.

Below is the link to the service manual.   The memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1.

Thank you for replying, Paul.

The reason I ask is because of the review posted here:

It says that they managed to get it working with 16GB RAM - is that recommended?

Thanks.

Hello Paul.
Thanks again for replying.

I don't suppose you know where I could buy such a 16GB RAM module from do you?

Many thanks.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Since you live in Thailand, unfortunately I wouldn't know where you can buy memory like that.

In the USA this site has them, so see if you can find the same part number for a chip in Thailand.

As you can see, they are very expensive and in my opinion, you will not get a good return on your investment.

A 500 GB 2.5" SSD and 8 GB of memory will cost you much less.

You would be much better off replacing the 500 GB 2.5" mechanical hard drive and replacing it with a 2.5" solid state drive (SSD) and installing a much easier to find, and cheaper 8 GB DDR3L memory chip.

Hello Paul.

I've already got a 240GB SSD in it, along with 8GB RAM.

I just wanted to see if it could handle 16GB.

Regards.

Even if it does, it would not be worth putting that kind of money into it.

Thank you, Paul.  I will bear that in mind.
