HP Elite X2 G4

I have an HP Elite X2 G4 laptop with a 256GB SATA-3 SSD in M.2 form factor installed.

I want to upgrade my laptop's storage and use an M.2 NVMe SSD, such as Samsung Evo 990, Evo 960, or any other NVMe drive.

Since M.2 SATA and M.2 NVMe differ in socket type and pin layout, can I install an M.2 NVMe SSD on my laptop?

You can check the relevant images below. Please guide me.

Page 8 of the HP Quickspecs at the link below indicates the M.2 slot supports both NVMe and SATA SSD's.

The slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

A Gen 4.0 SSD will work but it won't be able to run any faster than 4,000 MBPS read/write from the Gen 3 slot.
