Hello,

My PC has 500 GB hard drive that is about 55 percent full at present.  I would like to install a second working drive -- either SSD or regular.  I would connect it via USB 3.0.  Is this possible?

Yes, you can easily attached an external hard drive via USB 3.0

A better option may be to replace your existing Optical Drive Bay/DVD drive with a Hard Drive Caddy.

Thank you.  If I can figure out how to remove the optical drive and install the caddy and drive, I'll choose that option.

There are 2 size of hard drive caddy. 12.7mm and 9.5mm. you should get the correct thickness for you laptop. However, 9.5mm caddy can fit into 12.7 hard disk bay, but not the other way. Same with hard disk. 2.5' hdd have two different thickness 12.7 and 9.5.
