Can I add an SSD into a HP Omen 15-ce032tx

Hello eveyone,

I've just recently bought a HP Omen 15-ce032tx. In hindsight I should have added a little more and got the model with the SSD already installed. Having come from a business laptop that had a SSD installed and running Windows 10, I find the slowness of the  Omen appaling. 

1. Is it possible to install a SSD into my unit?

2. If I ask the shop that sold it to me to do it, will that void my warranty?

Hi,

Upgrading RAM and Hard drive is an accepted practice and in your model it is a customer self repair part. So, it will not void your warranty.

You can install an M2 PCIe NVMe drive and keep the other drive for data. The best idea is to install the M2 drive and remove the hard drive. Now install Windows 10 on the SSD and then replace the mechanical drive and remove the Windows partition from the mechanical drive.

You can add M.2 PCIe NVMe 2280 SSD in addition to HDD

No you'll not void warranty if you don't break anything in the process.

Thanks everyone  for the reply. I'll look into getting the SSD then.

One more question and sorry if sounds silly; How do I install a fresh copy of Windows 10 as it came preinstalled? I'm guessing it's on the recovery partition and if so, how would I access it to format and install on the SSD?

USe the HP Backup and recovery app. It will make you a thumb drive with factory image to restore with. Easiest way to do it. When you install the OS on the new M.2 SSD, unhook the hard drive so that only the SSD is connected. This will keep the recovery app from getting confused. Once you have Windows 10 booting on the new drive you can copy any files you need off the old drive and then format the old drive or just keep the stuff on there but disable it from booting. 

This may be a little complex so post back with any more questions.

Recovery partition is in your HDD. You can either create HP recovery USB (one time process) and use this USB to factory reset OS into M.2 SSD after removing the HDD from its bay.

No need of Windows activation.

Or Do a clean install of Windows 10 using Microsoft Windows media creation tool by creating UEFI bootable installation USB. HDD has to be taken out from its bay before clean installing OS into M.2 SSD that is plugged in.

Windows will be automatically activated on installation while connected to internet.

After successful installation, you can format the HDD and put it back in the bay ; use it for storage solely.
