You can try charging with a 65 W USB power source using the thunderbolt sleep & charge port.

It may or may not work.

Your laptop was delivered with  one of the following power adapters:

65 W HP Smart AC adapter (non-PFC, slim black barrel, 4.5 mm, straight)
AC Adapter 65 Watt Smart nPFC EM Barrel 4.5 mm

I recommend that for the best result, you continue using the supplied power adapter to charge your laptop.

I will listen to your advice, but I wonder why this is not clearly written anywhere in the manual or on the website.

The port is named as "Thunderbolt™ 4 with USB4™ Type-C®, 40 Gbps transmission speed (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge)", but it is not specified whether charging is only in output to the connected devices or bidirectional also to charge the notebook.

This thing triggers me a lot! 😤

Am I therefore to deduce that this is an "unwritten rule"? 😅

I would have to say "very written rule" :USB PD specifications.

Sure, but I meant in the manual of the notebook.

Thanks for the link

HP Subject Matter Specialists told us, when we  asked the same question you had, that if a laptop is delivered with a barrel type power adapter connection, but has a thunderbolt port that has sleep and charge, it may or may not be possible to charge it with a USB type-C power adapter.

I could have easily parroted the specifications, but tend to go with the advice from the official people who are involved with making and training others on a product's use.
