I have an HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk1151TX, and wanted to know if I can charge it through the USB C port.

Hi @Arjun59
Yes, according to the specifications the USB-C port is compatible with power delivery , but you must purchase a 150 watt power adapter.
External I/O Ports | 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge); 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate (HP Sleep and Charge); 2 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate; 1 HDMI 2.0; 1 RJ-45; 1 AC smart pin; 1 headphone/microphone combo |

No.
Your laptop, depending on the processor and discrete graphics solution it has installed, is meant to have its battery charged by use of one of the AC adapters in the list below.

150-W HP Smart AC adapter (PFC, slim, 4.5-mm) L32661-001
135-W HP Smart AC adapter (PFC, RC, slim, 4.5-mm) L15534-001

Hi @Arjun59
I base my answer on the specifications HP says, they say their USB-C port is Power Delivery compatible, any USB port that is PD compatible can receive a charge.

Thunderbolt + Power delivery + sleep and charge generally means that a USB port can be used to charge a laptop.
It does not always work both ways. Your laptop does not have a ThunderBolt port.
I used the Maintenance & Service guide for the laptop for my reference, which showed charging only delivered by the barrel type power adapters.

– 150-W HP Smart AC adapter (PFC, slim, 4.5-mm)
– 135-W HP Smart AC adapter (PFC, RC, slim, 4.5-mm)
● Support for 1.00-m power cords with a C13 or C5 connectors

It is not necessary for a USB-C port to be Thunderbolt compatible to charge a laptop, for example this power delivery compatible dock is not thunderbolt.

The dock is not the device being charged, unlike the laptop that is the subject of this thread.
I asked the question in the Inner Circle.
Perhaps the SME staff will clarify this for us.

if it were up to thunderbolt, the next model could not be power delivery using an AMD processor. and there are very few motherboards using AMD that can use Thunderbolt

That is true enough.
I suppose that you noticed that the power adapter for the HP EliteBook 845 G8 happens to provide power by use of the barrel adapter.
Perhaps this is one of th3e few that does have Thunderbolt and an AMD Ryzen 5 processor.
