OMEN by HP Laptop PC - 15-ax099nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi 🙂

I would like to add Samsung 250GB 960 EVO M.2 2280 NVMe to my M.2 slot, but i want to make sure that this will work for my laptop. Can anyone tell me this?

Also I would like to reinstall my system and install it on my M.2 slot ( currently my Windows is installed on HDD Drive).

If i reinstall my system will i not lose my warranty?

Sorry for my poor english, and thanks for help :))

The news is mostly favorable. The Omen you have is compatible with a PCIe/NVME M.2 disk which is good. The Samsung 960 NVME M.2 specifically has been reported sometimes by other Forum Users to cause issues. I can tell you personally I have a model from this same series that HP loaned me for this year as part of being an Expert. I did exactly what you want to do. Opened the back and upgraded the 128 gig SATA M.2 mine came with and installed a 512 gig NVME/PCIe disk. However, I used the disk based on the recommended part number in the Manual. Not a Samsung 960 but a Samsung PM961 M.2 disk. I have installed such disks now in 4 different HP laptops with no issues at all. I have never purchased or tried to install a Samsung 960 but have answered lots of questions here from folks who had trouble trying to do so.

HP has assured us you can remove the back to upgrade storage and not lose the waranty.

Lastly yes you can make the M.2 disk the OS disk. The easy way to do it is as soon as you get the laptop make the HP recovery thumb drive. Remove the back, remove the original hard drive and install the M.2 disk. Now with the hard drive removed run a recovery on the M.2 disk. When you have it up and running and have rebooted a couple times put the original hard drive back in and format it for use as storage.

Hey, thank you for an answer! I think i will do the same thing and buy Samsung PM961, cause I don't want any trouble 🙂

I got one more question. Can I run this HP Recovery tool after I will remove my orginal hard drive and install my new SSD drive? How should I run this? Thank you 🙂

HP Recommended

No. Run the recovery tool when you first open the box, while the hard drive is installed. Make a recovery usb drive. Then remove the back, remove the hard drive and install the M.2. Then boot from the recovery usb and install the factory software on the M.2. End result is you have a fresh factory image on the M.2 as the boot disk. We could suggest cloning and other methods but this has the advantage of simplicity. Understood?

Yes, thank you very much! 🙂
