Your machine is a Single HDD configuration machine therefore the chance to have M.2 slot is slim to none, you can only open the case to find down. Many members have similar machines (same 15-au1xx series) and they found out no M.2 slot on theirs . From there, only one option: upgrade 1TB 5400rpm HDD to 1TB SSD.
For the second question, it depends on which SSD you are talking about.

I just want to know that the laptop has M2 slot or not..
Hp dosent provide any information about that. as a 7th Gen laptop it should have m2 slot. I want to install ssd for os and keep HDD for storage...

We can only aologize but here is the Service Manual:
See p. 30. In the lower left corner under the removed rear cover is the hard drive. Just to the left of that, you can see an M.2 disk installed. All well and good. However, we have had many reports from users who purchased a laptop in this model series but have opened theirs up and found no slot in that location. This is on models that shipped only with a mechanical hard drive.
However, others have confirmed that such a slot is in fact present. See also, pages 32-34. All we can advise is to open it up and look. If the slot is there you can install an M.2 SATA-type disk in the slot and use it as your OS disk.
