HP15-da0006tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Can I put one stick of 16gb ram and then 4gb ram, both with the same frequency, to have a total of 20gb? Will it work just fine? I have only 2 ram slots and due to tight budget, I only can buy one stick of 16gb Ram.  My laptop model is hp15-da0006tx, currently using 8gb of ram (2 x 4gb), 500gb ssd, 1tb hdd, windows 64bit.

Hi:

Below is the link to the Crucial memory report for your notebook.

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hP---Compaq/hp-15-da0006tx

It supports a max of 2 x 16 GB of memory, so you would be able to do what you want.

Don't leave it that way though.

When you can afford it, replace the 4 GB chip with a 16 GB chip, so the memory runs in the higher performing dual channel mode, the way it is now with 2 x 4 GB.

When you install memory in mismatched capacities, the memory runs in the lower performing single channel mode.
