Hello.

No, you cannot unless you also replace the system board.

The DV6 was available with several system boards for either 35W or 45W Intel processors.

I found two Maintenance and Service manuals for almost identical DV6 models with 3210m CPU, with slightly different system boards and CPU selection, but they also share a lot of components too.

If you want certainty on which manual is the correct one, check your motherboard for "Replace with spare" sticker and see which manual has it listed.

They are same socket, and same TDP 35w

but they are

IVY Bridge

I already included a link to the Service Manual for your laptop and there is a list of CPU's that will work, along with HP part numbers. The 3612QM is the only one on your list that is listed there. The others are not.

If you wish to buy a non-HP part number CPU, keep in mind that the same CPU may have been available for different socket types. Your laptop socket type is 988.

As far as I know, the last BIOS for DV6 is F.1D - https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50586.exe

The release notes do not mention anything about CPU support.

Yes, it was my mistake, I have two laptops, one is dead "3210M"

The one working, i5-2410M Sandy Bridge 

Can I change with IVY Bridge?

I didn't find this before, as the support ended for my laptop

From what I understand, IVY Bridge cannot be installed on HM65 express unless there's an update for the bios..

Does the F.1D has any info about that?

When I installed win 10, the start up and restart takes a long time loading a black screen till I reach login screen.

From what I understand, because of no update for 

AMD Radeon HD 6490M that support Win 10....

Is there a work a round?

OK, good that you cleared the confusion.

So, let's focus on the laptop with 2410M and HM65 chipset:

With this combination we need to resort to another Service Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02745432.pdf

(HP has had multiple DV6 models and your 6155EE is not using same components as the newer model with i5-3210M)

In this manual are listed all the CPU options, which range from i3-2310M to i7-2820M, therefore only Sandy Bridge CPU's are possible. Ivy Bridge is not possible.

If you still want to upgrade to a faster Sandy Bridge CPU, the good news is that there are no separate system boards for 35W and 45W CPU's so it's just "plug and play".

Your graphics problem is more likely due to the Intel HD3000 GPU which is not supported under Windows 10. You can try installign the final Windows 8.1 drivers for it, version 15.28.24.4229, but the installer may refuse to work in Win10 so you may have to extract the drivers from the exe package and manually update the drivers from within the Windows Device Manager - no guarantees that Windows will accept the driver or that it will work after a reboot.

AMD has Windows 10 drivers for the Radeon 6000M series on its download page, so the AMD GPU should not be a problem.

If your laptop BIOS allows disabling the hybrid switchable graphics, please set it the discrete only setting to disable the Intel HD3000 part. Not all computer support disabling the hybrid graphics.

But will the 45w CPU use the same heatsink as 35w CPU? or it will need a different heatsink.

As for slow restart

I'll check my bios setup for switchable graphic card and see if I can disable intel hd graphics 3000.

I think you are right, intel 3000 card driver is the problem.

According to the manual I linked to, the heatsink is the same for all CPU's regardless of their power input/heat output requirements.

Good luck and report back if you ever upgrade the CPU!

Hi,

I tried disabling switchable graphic card and choose fixed graphics..

But when I restarted, the system "win 10" used Intel HD graphics 3000 and disregarded AMD Radeon HD 6490m..

Is there a way to make it choose AMD 6490m instead of Intel 3000?

Hi,

Fixed graphics means the Intel IGP HD3000 as you have noticed. If there's no option for Discrete Only (or similar) then it just isn't possible.

As I said, you could try the Windows 8.1 graphics driver for HD3000 but there's a good chance it won't work.
