Pavilion Entertainment DV7 4270KZ
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Pavillion DV7 4270KZ with AMD Turion II 540 processor already upgraded to 8GB Ram and twin SSDs. The laptop with 17 inch display was seldom used and in excellent condition.

Would it be possible to replace the motherboard with another HP motherboard that can take a more powerful processor and perhaps go to 16GB of RAM?

I need a quad processor to run ray tracing programs when I am on the road.

Thanks, hope reigns eternal! 😉

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

AMD Phenom X2 Dual-Core N970 Quad-Core, 35W, 2.20-GHz with 2.0-MB L2cache

AMD Phenom X2 Dual-Core N950 Quad-Core, 35W, 2.10-GHz with 2.0-MB L2cache

AMD Phenom X2 Dual-Core N930 Quad-Core, 35W, 2.00-GHz with 2.0-MB L2cache

Any of the above would fit on your motherboard but if you want a bit more video muscle you could replace with this motherboard:

For ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6550 discrete graphics and 1-GB of dedicated memory with subwoofer 630834-001

HP would not longer have this you would have to source from a parts house. And it is still an older nearly obsolete system. You want to check and see if your software can even run on the best processor and motherboard offered for this system.

Good news is the parts are likely to be relatively inexpensive as not much demand at this point.

Post back if you need any more help with this.
