HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9X9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm using an HP laptop with 8GB of RAM and I'm facing limitations in my work due to this constraint. I am not equipped to perform a RAM upgrade myself, and I want to ensure that my laptop's warranty remains intact. Is it possible to upgrade my RAM from 8GB to 32GB through HP services as my laptop is still under warranty ?

What is your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9X9AV) machine ? It could be one on the following list

         https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/ish_6297860-6297993-16

The specs says

(2) SODIMM slots

Dual Channel Memory support

System runs at 3200 MT/s

Maximum memory supported: 16 GB

and options:

  • 4 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (1 x 4 GB)

  • 8 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (1 x 8 GB)

  • 8 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (2 x 4 GB)

  • 12 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (1 x 8 GB and 1 x 4 GB)

  • 16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (2 x 8 GB

Regards.

Thank you for your reply, but when I ran a command prompt to check the maximum memory capacity of my laptop, I discovered that it is 32 GB.

However, this is not the answer I was looking for. I would like to know if my laptop is still under warranty and if HP provides services for RAM upgrades.

Warranty is a grey/gray area, very hard to say in concrete. For new generation machines, adding something or fixing something is a work for Authorized Service Provider parts .

However you can add yourself. If something went wrong due to this upgrade, I think HP would not honor warranty.

Hope this makes sense.

Hello She17.

As banhien EXPERT Level 20 pointed out, HP only acknowledges the possibility of a 16GB upgrade. This doesn't necessarily mean that you can't go higher than that, it does however mean you can't do it through HP services. Doubling your RAM WILL give you the performance increase you desire, and if you so wish it......HP will be very happy to take care of it for you. Just make certain you ask your local HP service center about the cost, because it will (obviously) be more expensive than getting and installing the RAM yourself.

You can always follow the above mentioned (by banhien EXPERT Level 20) advice, and do the upgrade yourself. All of us here follow that path when it comes to RAM, just be careful, and if you ever have any problem with your laptop you must replace the original RAM before taking it to HP.

Take care!
