What is the fastest type of 1TB ssd that can be used in this laptop

You are quite right.

 

No 15-bsXXX notebook supports a NVMe SSD.

 

You can either replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD or install a M.2 SATA SSD in the available M.2 slot.

 

AFAIK, this is the fastest SATA M.2 SSD available.
